Activated carbon contains ca. 90% strongly blown carbon. Showing a structure like the one of a sponge, the activated carbon has an extremely large surface. The inner surface, that means the surface of the air bubbles inside the carbon, is up to 2000 sqaure meters per gram large. 5 gram of carbone have more surface than a football-pitch. When the air (or the water) runs through this activated carbon like running through little sponges, the harmful substances, dirt particles, solvent remainders and organic pollution stick to the carbon. That's how the air gets cleaned.
This version of carbon filters have a fine mesh steel cloth inside to improve the filtering effect.

The diameter of the flange is ca. 10 cm, the entire fliter tube has got ca. 14.5 cm. Length is ca. 30 cm and the manufacturer notifies the effort of the carbone filter at 250m³/h.
