For substrates for cultivation-start it is crucial, that they can retain water very well, and that they are nutrient-poor. That might sound surprising, because normally cuttings would need much nutients in the phase of cultivation-start. But the advantage of a nutrient-poor substrate for the cultivation-start is, that by giving the additives you can simulate any type of soil you like.
