Besides ordinary, flask-shaped glass bongs, there are also ice bongs or percolator bongs, which filter and cool the smoke. Here, every bong lover will find his personal favorite.

Short history of the Bong
Short history of Bong manufacturing
But how did these these come about and how long have bongs existed? Well, the history of smoking with a water-filled vessel actually has a much longer tradition than you might think. Excavating an ancient cemetery in Russia in 2013, researchers found 2400-year-old relics of the Scythians. The chiefs used golden pitchers to smoke cannabis and Opium.

But it was not only in the steppes that people had discovered the hookah for themselves. In the Southeast Asian culture, bongs were also made in their original form from coconuts and bamboo canes. Fun Fact: Such primitive bongs still enjoy great popularity in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.

But how did bongs come to be as we know them today? Another predecessor of the bong is perhaps the best known water pipe, the shisha from the Arab region. It was industrially manufactured relatively early. What you can buy in bong stores today is basically a further development of the original American concept from the 1960s hippie era - straight pipe, stand and removable head. You can see, despite a diverse millennia of hookah history, that the Modern Bong is quite a newfangled invention.

Choice of materials: What to know
When buying a bong, it is important to know what materials are available and what suits you. The classic par excellence; The glass bong.
Not for nothing, this is the most popular and most common bong there is. But why is the popular with smokers? Well:

-Glass is first of all a hygienic material. That is, thanks to its smooth surface, cleaning it is a breeze.

-Glass is not only hygienic but also top when it comes to temperature resistance.

-Cuts have a standard for glass bongs, the sizes here are 14.5mm, 18.8mm and 29.2 mm. This makes modular extension. So it facilitates the modular extension to which you can attach, for example, pre-cooler, activated carbon adapter, vaporizer, diffuser or oil attachments.

But not only glass is available as material, there are also other things like ceramic, bamboo and stainless steel.

-If the choice is not glass, it is usually acrylic or plastic. Advantage with those is that the much more shatterproof and thus also easier to be taken. Although the acrylic bong is not as modular accessories as the glass bong, but since it has a screw thread, there is the use of screw pipes with screw heads possible.

-Ceramic can be used to create all sorts of shapes, aliens, dragons, skulls - the manufacturers have no limits in their imagination and no customer request remains unfulfillable.

-Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource and a real natural material. As already mentioned in the history had been used earlier in the Southeast Asian region
